Vote.org is hiring a Digital Associate to help us permanently increase voter turnout in the United States of America.

Company description

Vote.org is a nonprofit startup that uses technology to simplify political engagement, increase voter turnout, and strengthen American democracy. We believe that Americans want to vote and will vote in higher numbers -- and more consistently -- as voting becomes more convenient. We launched in April 2016, and have since helped millions of Americans register to vote and cast ballots through a combination of best-in-class technology and innovative outreach. Our work has the potential to change the outcome of elections by bringing millions more voters to the voting booth.

Vote.org is deeply committed to diversity. We strongly encourage women, people of color, first-generation Americans, new parents, single parents, people with disabilities, and members of the LGBTQ community to apply.

Job description

The Digital Associate will report to the Communications Manager and is responsible for creating engaging content for and managing Vote.org’s social media platforms; coordinating live streams and chats with organizers in the civic space, celebrity influencers, and staff; and growing our audience of digital activists, donors, and members.

Specific Duties

  • Create and post compelling, action-oriented content for Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, and other social media platforms that reinforces the Vote.org brand, amplifies key messaging, and turns out voters;
  • Plan and manage an editorial calendar to ensure accounts are updated with branded content every day;
  • Recognize great hooks and cultural moments that will move people to take action;
  • Engage with influencers and high-profile accounts;
  • Run campaigns with an eye toward growing our social media audiences and turning them into online activists and donors;
  • Write with a strong, personable style and adapt your writing across platforms and accounts;
  • Develop appropriate reporting to keep organization leadership apprised of key metrics and performance data;
  • Manage the weekly social media brainstorm(s);
  • Other projects as assigned.

Requirements

We’re looking for candidates who have a passion for social media, online engagement, and writing, and who want to help turn out more people of color and young voters than ever before. Creativity, outstanding writing skills, and a commitment to the mission are all required for this role. Candidates should have two or more years of experience in digital, preferably in a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization.

Additional qualifications:

  • Native user of multiple social media platforms, especially Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook;
  • Ability to deliver creative content (text, image and video);
  • Solid knowledge of SEO, keyword research, and analytics;
  • Strong knowledge of social media strategy and audience development;
  • Strong copywriting and writing skills, attention to detail, and the ability to adapt writing style to multiple voices;
  • Culturally savvy with a keen eye on current events.

Candidates should be able to handle multiple projects at once, work well under deadline, and understand that digital isn’t a 9 to 5 kind of job. Evening and weekend work will be expected as political events and rapid response needs demand. Must have a commitment to the diversity of our audience, donors, supporters, partners, and staff, and the commitment and passion to turn out voters.

Vote.org offers a competitive salary and a strong benefits package. The salary range for this position is $55,000 to $70,000, commensurate with experience.
