Vote.org is hiring a Digital Manager to help us permanently increase voter turnout in the United States of America.

Company description

Vote.org is a nonprofit startup that uses technology to simplify political engagement, increase voter turnout, and strengthen American democracy. We believe that Americans want to vote and will vote in higher numbers -- and more consistently -- as voting becomes more accessible. We launched in April 2016, and have since helped millions of Americans register to vote and cast ballots through a combination of best-in-class technology and innovative outreach. Our work has the potential to change the outcome of elections by bringing millions more voters to the voting booth.

Vote.org is deeply committed to diversity. We strongly encourage women, people of color, first-generation Americans, new parents, single parents, people with disabilities, and members of the LGBTQ community to apply.

Job description

The Digital Manager will be our lead digital strategist developing and helping to manage Vote.org’s digital communications portfolio and ensuring that we execute a significant portion of our overall communications strategy in a timely and coordinated manner.

This position will report to the Communications Manager and will oversee and grow Vote.org’s online reach through digital channels, including our social media channels, website properties, and creative digital assets such as video, graphics, and other creative and digital products.

The Digital Team is a key part of this turnout program, owning online member engagement, fundraising, advertising, innovation, and growth. This position is perfect for someone excited about helping execute a large-scale engagement program.

Specific Duties

  • Work with the Communications manager to develop, manage, and track outcomes of our digital communications strategies, as well as ensure that our strategies align with our organizational goals, including on Vote.org’s social media channels, website properties, and email/SMS program;
  • Help create compelling email and web copy for fundraising, engagement, and advocacy campaigns;
  • Manage paid digital ad strategy, including placing ads, making ad buys and tracking, measuring, optimizing, and reporting ad performance;
  • Measure and optimize our digital platforms and channels to maximize impact to expand our digital footprint;
  • Manage and develop Vote.org’s digital assets, including videos, graphic design, and other digital products;
  • Identify opportunities—and develop materials with other relevant staffers—to promote and publicize organizational initiatives, activities, reports, and content;
  • Conduct digital outreach and run influencer strategy, draft social media and website content and execute other key tactics for successful digital strategy;
  • Supervise and execute communications-related Vote.org programming on our digital channels.
  • Help implement digital strategies across c3 and c4 contexts, including issue-based campaigns and accountability for elected officials;
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

We’re looking for candidates who have a passion for social media, online engagement, and writing, and who want to help turn out more people of color and young voters than ever before. Creativity, outstanding writing skills, and a commitment to the mission are all required for this role. Candidates should have three or more years of experience in digital, preferably in a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization.

Additional qualifications:

  • You have experience developing robust digital strategies, which include social media, website and creative, highly-shareable content that will attract engagement and increase influence.
  • You have experience creating and executing digital media.
  • You have a keen awareness of news cycles and election calendars and how Vote.org’s work and services fit into them.
  • You’re a pro at multitasking and working under tight deadlines in a dynamic environment.
  • You’re creative and innovative, willing to try new approaches to solving old problems.
  • You have social media and rapid response experience.
  • An analytic mind and a curiosity for data-driven online organizing -- previous data experience is a BIG plus.
  • Ability to work nimbly in a fast-paced environment, regularly beating deadlines and setting/exceeding expectations.
  • Strong writing and oral communication skills.

Candidates should be able to handle multiple projects at once, work well under deadline, and understand that digital isn’t a 9 to 5 kind of job. Evening and weekend work will be expected as political events and rapid response needs demand. Must have a commitment to the diversity of our audience, donors, supporters, partners, and staff, and the commitment and passion to turn out voters.

Vote.org offers a competitive salary and a strong benefits package. The salary range for this position is $70,000 to $85,000, commensurate with experience.
